You've probably heard of Press Releases but might not know exactly what purpose they serve in the world of media. Press releases are formal statements that are presented to various media to share information, create an official statement, or make an announcement that will be released to the public. They are used to announce newsworthy events or share information about a brand with the public.

At Press Hook, we primarily use press releases to highlight your brand's news for media to take interest for future coverage.

Reasons for Publishing a Press Release:

  • New Product Launches

  • New Brand Partnerships & Collaborations

  • Announcing New Company Campaigns

  • Announcing Rebranding or Updating Your Company Name

  • Announcing Company Expansions, New Retailers

  • Announcing Company Award or Competition Wins

  • Announcing Company Supporting a Non-Profit or Cause

  • Announcing Participation in a National or Local Event

  • Announcing a New Initiative Tied to An Upcoming Major Holiday

What IS NOT a Press Release:

  • General brand and advertising copy about the company or brand

    • We recommend adding this to your “About Section” of your brand profile.

  • Upcoming Brand Sales

    • We recommend adding this to the Forum, under “Brand News & Updates”

    • This would include Labor Day Sales, National Holiday Sales, etc.

Structure of a Press Release: A press release should follow the “inverted pyramid” rule where the most important information is presented first. The who, what, when, where and why appear at the start of a story, followed by supporting details and background information.

Steps for writing a Press Release:

  1. Write a compelling headline.

  2. Add more context with a subheadline.

  3. Convey the news value to the press.

  4. Offer a tempting quote.

  5. Provide valuable background information on the subject.

  6. Summarize the ‘who’ and the ‘what’ in a boilerplate.

  7. Include contact information.

  8. Proofread before publishing.
